SOS: Help Legacies of Success Build on The Rock

Christ Community Chapel’s SOS (Simple Opportunities to Serve) focus ministry is Legacies of Success in June.

"Everyone who hears what I say and obeys me will be like a man who has good sense. He built his house on a rock. It rained hard. The water in the rivers came up high. The winds were strong and beat on the house. But it did not fall down. It was built on a rock. But everyone who hears what I say and does not obey me will be like a man who has no sense. He built his house on the sand.

What is it to build on a rock?

Legacies of Success (LOS) seeks to bring the abundant life, which is built on The Rock, our Lord Jesus Christ, to our neighbors in need in the North Hill, Cascade Village and Cascade Valley areas of North Akron. LOS rehabilitates housing in these areas, and provides affordable habitations for local residents.

What part can I play?

You can help Legacies of Success as they provide the guidance and means for others to build their lives on The Rock. Consider these options:

PRAY – Sign up to be a prayer warrior for Legacies of Success. You will receive a monthly email with three prayer requests/praises for the ministry to bring to the Lord throughout the month. To sign up, contact Barbara Ammirati at: Barbara.Ammirati@ccchapel.com

GIVE – Donate a gift card (in any amount) from one of the home improvement stores to help with items needed inside and out for the homes being revitalized. Drop the gift card off at the Hudson campus church office receptionist desk Monday through Thursday, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, and Fridays from 8:30 AM to noon. Please place the gift card in an envelope marked “Legacies of Success.”

GO – Volunteer to work on one of the homes in North Akron being revitalized for Urban Vision families. Contact Karen McStay, Local Outreach Ministry Coordinator at: kmcstay@hotmail.com

SOS: Help Legacies of Success Rebuild the City for God’s Glory

Legacies of Success is Christ Community Chapel’s June focus ministry for SOS (Simple Opportunities to Serve).

Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.

Psalm 127:1

How does the Lord build houses? Watch over cities?

He does these things through His people. For example, His people working through Legacies of Success (LOS), a program of Urban Vision.

How does this work?

Legacies of Success exists to solve problems in the city. LOS wants to help our neighbors in need realize the American dream of safety and home ownership. However, the inner city can be plagued by oppressive slumlords, drug use, sexual predators and illiteracy. The desire of inner city residents for a better life can cause them to relocate as soon as circumstances allow. However, this also stands in the way of revitalizing urban areas.

Revitalization comes via a slow, multistep process, which includes divine insight on how to keep the best people from leaving, educating residents in the skills needed to hold down a job, how to manage their money, and how to own their own homes. Those who work for their own homes appreciate them more than those who received them as a gift.

Legacies of Success not only rehabs homes in the inner city, but also helps locals build a sense of pride in the neighborhood. LOS helps people gain the skills necessary to own and keep homes properly maintained. Over time, this helps local properties stay maintained and rise in value. It also helps improve the appeal of the inner city neighborhood.

Legacies of Success exists to revitalize the North Hill community by transforming the neighborhood one house at a time.  This is a long term effort, with a focus on Jesus Christ’s love for the needy for all of eternity. However, there are Simple Opportunities to Serve!

SOS: Partner with Legacies of Success to Benefit the Disadvantaged

In June, Legacies of Success is Christ Community Chapel’s featured ministry partner. CCC is promoting Simple Opportunities to Serve (SOS) at Legacies.

But let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.

God wants justice for the oppressed.

His people are to be advocates for them.

How about today?

God’s heart for the oppressed is the same today as in Old Testament times. He works through ministries like Legacies of Success (LOS), a program of Urban Vision. Legacies prays over the disenfranchised, unlike some landlords, who prey on them.

Legacies of Success Community Development Corporation exists to revitalize the North Hill, Akron community by transforming the neighborhood one house at a time. LOS rehabs local homes, providing affordable housing for people in need. It also trains residents to own the safety and desirability of their neighborhood as well as their houses. Changing the lives of the current residents in the name of Christ is LOS’ top priority.
