Know the story: Called to serve!

“I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.”
From Luke 1:38

God does the amazing through followers with servant hearts.

Mary became the mother of Jesus, the Savior of the world, by the power of God and with a willing heart.

Know the story: You were saved to serve.

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith — and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God —  not by works, so that no one can boast.  For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
From: Ephesians 2: 9-10

Followers of Jesus, the Savior, have been saved by God’s grace, as seen in the sacrificial death and resurrection of Christ Jesus. As sinners saved by grace, we respond to God’s love with a supernatural desire to serve in ways that seem ordinary, but are designed to glorify God.

When Christ empowers the servant, great things happen.

Recently, a Christ Community Chapel community group responded to an opportunity to help Faithful Servants Care Center (FSCC) get its supplies better organized. Faithful Servants' mission is to provide free urgent care services with a Christ-like compassion for those without insurance and the economic means to access traditional health care. Volunteer doctors and nurses serve on the front lines, but they also need the support of people willing to help with 'housekeeping' matters.

“Our community group really showed the hands of Jesus today getting Faithful Servants’ storage area ready to support the amazing work they do at the clinic! I am SO completely blessed to be a part of this amazing group of Christ following brothers and sisters!! Thank you all for your amazing servants hearts!!”
CCC Local Outreach Ministry Coordinator Kathi Bertolini

Christians today are called to have the same servant heart that Mary had. Christ can take our willingness to serve in the seemingly mundane things - like moving and cleaning storage cabinets, and organizing medical supplies - to enable His people to accomplish the amazing and supernatural things, like bringing the healing message of the Gospel to those in need of medical care.

Faithful Servants is located in Tallmadge, but also has mobile outreach impact in the Akron area. FSCC collaborates extensively with other Local Outreach partners such as Haven of Rest and South Street Ministries.

Community groups can help Local Outreach partners with seemingly mundane tasks, such as cleaning storage racks.

Helping FSCC with cleaning enables medical care professionals to minister more effectively.

More cleaning work at FSCC.

Setting up shelves and slotting inventory of supplies helps FSCC be more effective for the Kingdom of God.

How about you?

If you have been saved by faith in Jesus Christ by God’s grace, study and ponder that amazing reality as you are called to know your story this year. Also, prayerfully consider how you, perhaps through a community group, are called to serve for the glory of God.
