Simple Opportunity to Serve: Thanksgiving Baskets!

…give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

I Thessalonians 5:18

In 2013, CCC members and friends donated contents for over 1,000 baskets in a surge of hilarious generosity

Followers of Jesus are to give thanks.

Christians have, by the grace of God, received abundant blessings.  These include forgiveness of sins, abundance of life today and for eternity, and even the inconceivable promise of glorification. In response to our Heavenly Father’s great love, it is only natural to give thanks.  Just as God’s love has been abundantly poured out onto us, we seek to extend His love to others.

How can our thanksgiving have an impact?

You can take part in Christ Community Chapel’s Thanksgiving Basket Initiative. This year, CCC members and friends have a goal to donate contents for 1,100 baskets (really, they are more like large bins!) in providing a full Thanksgiving feast for neighbors in need. Each basket contains enough food for 10 to 12 people.  These baskets are a visible, tangible, edible reminder of God’s love for the recipients.

Fantastic! What do I do?

Here are some options:

PRAY – Pray for the families who will be receiving these baskets of food and the ministries who will be delivering them.

GIVE – Make a Thanksgiving Basket for 10 to 12 people as part of CCC’s yearly Thanksgiving Basket Initiative. For more information, contact Judi Dalton at: judidalton7@yahoo.com .

GO – Help with the collection and organization of the Thanksgiving Baskets on Monday, November 24th from 3 PM to 7 PM. For more details, contact Judi Dalton at: judidalton7@yahoo.com .

SOS: Give God's Love, Get Wisdom

The October Simple Opportunities to Serve (SOS) featured ministry is Portage Trail Chapel.

Wisdom is with the aged, and understanding in length of days.

Job 12:12, ESV

God provides us with wisdom when we minister to the aged.

Many times when we seek to minister the love of God to the aged and the sick, we encounter unexpected blessings. They can be a fount of calmness, understanding and wisdom in this age of addiction to adrenalin.

How can I minister?

Christ Community Chapel’s outreach, Portage Trail Chapel, is a great way. This is a worship service ministry for the residents of the Portage Trail Village independent living facility for seniors at 45 Cathedral Lane in Cuyahoga Falls.   Since many residents cannot get to church, every first and third Monday, Christ Community Chapel brings live worship and a pastoral message to the residents.

Tell me more.

SOS: Ministering to the Elderly

The October Simple Opportunities to Serve (SOS) featured ministry is Portage Trail Chapel.

I command you to show respect for older people and to obey me with fear and trembling.

Leviticus 19:32 CEV

Our relationship with God is reflected in how we care for others.

We are to love God reverentially in worship and serving. And we are to extend agape love to others, including the elderly.

How can I minister God’s love to the elderly?

One way is by linking up with Christ Community Chapel’s Portage Trail Chapel ministry. Portage Trail Chapel is a worship service ministry for the residents of the Portage Trail Village independent living facility for seniors at 45 Cathedral Lane in Cuyahoga Falls.   Since many residents cannot get to church, every first and third Monday, Christ Community Chapel brings live worship and a pastoral message to the residents.
