Living the Story: Serving Like Jesus!

…the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.

From Matthew 20:28

Those who are growing in Christ long to serve.

Through His substitutionary sacrifice, Jesus poured out the love of God on us.  Likewise, Jesus’ followers look for opportunities to show God’s love to others.

This gets practical.

As practical as putting together boxed lunches.

Recently, a Christ Community Chapel community group volunteered to create about 90 boxed lunches for people at a Rahab Ministries training event.  The group members saw it as a great ‘hands on’ chance to support those at Rahab who reach, rescue and redeem women ensnared in sex trafficking.

It also gets joyful!

As we live out the Gospel by serving, we are reminded how much Jesus, our savior, has done out of love for us.  One of the ways God restores to us the joy of our salvation and our thankfulness is by having us serve in His name. This community group has found great joy and enthusiasm in acting as the hands and feet of Jesus to help others!

Get yourself some joy!

Knowing and Living The Story: Thanksgiving Baskets!

…see that you also excel in this grace of giving.

From 2 Corinthians 8:7

The believer’s generous giving can reflect God’s grace.

All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. However, by grace, through faith in Jesus Christ, we are forgiven.  God’s grace, love and power are evident in our salvation. That grace, love and power can overflow to others as an expression of our thanks to God.

A giving opportunity is here!

For Thanksgiving 2015, CCC members and friends gave enough food to fill more than 1,400 Thanksgiving Baskets!

This year, Christ Community Chapel is challenging its friends and members to donate enough food to fill 1,500 Thanksgiving Baskets (totes). Since each basket contains enough food to feed about 10 people, this giving could demonstrate God’s love to as many as 15,000 people in the Akron area.

CCC Local Outreach ministry partners identify needy families in our area, and CCC people donate food and pack the Thanksgiving Baskets. The baskets are then staged for the ministry partners to pick up and deliver.

CCC members and friends can sign up to fill one or more Thanksgiving Baskets for the needy.

You can pick up empty baskets (totes) starting the weekend of November 5/6 before or after worship services in the Hudson Campus atrium. Pick up weekends will continue on November 12/13 and November 19/20 with return of the baskets being Monday, November the 21st from 2:00 PM to 6 PM .

You can put your Thanksgiving into action!

Thanksgiving can be so much more than a day off work. It can be an expression of what God has put in our hearts.

Please prayerfully consider if you might be called to give food for one or more Thanksgiving Baskets.  We can live out the story of God’s salvation, grace, love and power by demonstrating how His love fills our lives, and flows out to others who are in need.
