Why Not Me - Supporting Justice & Mercy Ministries!

And the Lord said, “I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you, and I will proclaim my name, the Lord, in your presence. I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.

Exodus 33:19

When asked to show His glory, God speaks of His mercy and compassion.

Our lives are the only Bible some will read. Do they reflect God’s mercy and compassion?

How can His people show God’s mercy and compassion?

One way is by supporting the work of those who care for the most broken of our neighbors in in need…like Rahab Ministries ( Rahab Link ), Restoration Chapel ( Restoration Link ) and South Street Ministries          ( South Street Link ) / Faithful Servants ( FSCC Link ) Partnership.

Okay. Make this practical.

If you like to eat, or like to golf, consider attending the August 3 Micah Golf Outing at Westfield Group Country Club. By registering for the Outing, you can support these great ministries. Last year’s event raised over $45,000 to benefit justice and mercy ministries. This is a wonderful opportunity for your fun activities to make a difference for the Kingdom of God.

Why Not Me – Supporting Rahab Ministries!

If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones.

From Luke 16:10, New Living Translation

Faithfulness in the ordinary things of life can glorify God.

Summer is here, and the time is right for little, ordinary things, like garage sales.  For those who seek to serve the Kingdom of God, even those ‘little’ things can have ‘God-sized’ and eternal impact, if we are faithful.

A small event for a huge cause.

What do little things have to do with eternity?

To the extent our hearts are in tune with Jesus’ desire that we serve ‘the least of these,’ we serve Him. For example, a group of 10 families recently decided to do a joint garage sale. However, the Kingdom wrinkle was, they wanted all the proceeds to benefit Rahab Ministries of Akron.

The Rahab Safe House

Rahab is a Christian ministry that seeks to break the chains of sexual slavery by reaching out to women who have been caught up in sex trafficking.  Rahab brings rescue, restoration and education to women. Rahab rescues by reaching out to women ensnared in prostitution. Rahab restores women’s lives by providing a surrogate family for love, strong boundaries and support. And, Rahab educates people in the Akron area on the nature of sex trafficking, and the opportunities to participate in saving the lives of entrapped women.

Where does a garage sale come in?

The 10-family garage sale was a great way for the families involved to donate used clothing, toys, housewares and other goods for sale. The proceeds went to Rahab’s new safe house, a place where women can experience restoration and discover a new life of freedom in Jesus.  The safe house needs various furniture and household goods to provide a safe, nurturing environment in which women can move toward freedom in Christ for eternity.

What can a garage sale do?

This one was blessed with divine results:

  • It raised $1,100.00 for furnishings for Rahab’s safe house.
  • It provided the participants with opportunities to share with neighbors and friends about the work God is doing through His people at Rahab Ministries.
  • It opened the door for numerous spiritual conversations about Jesus and His gospel.

The ‘little’ things in our lives can be used for great, and eternal impact in the lives of others.

How does this apply to me – today?

Please prayerfully consider how something as ‘little’ and ‘ordinary’ as a garage sale might be used to further the gospel and God’s work of justice and mercy toward neighbors in need.

A great, fun, little way you can help support God's work!
