SOS: South Street’s Trails’N’Rails combines fun & serving!

For August, our SOS (Simple Opportunities to Serve) featured ministry partner is South Street Ministries.

18 With him we are sending the brother who is famous among all the churches for his preaching of the gospel. 19 And not only that, but he has been appointed by the churches to travel with us as we carry out this act of grace that is being ministered by us, for the glory of the Lord himself and to show our good will.

2 Corinthians 8: 18-19

Many times, sharing the Gospel requires mobility.

South Street Ministries combines the efforts of unlikely partners taking shared risks to renew our community for Christ’s sake. Those unlikely partners are holding a September 13th fundraiser, called Trails’N’Rails, that combines mobility, exercise and family fun time for participants.  The event, which includes a bike ride, a fun train ride and a picnic carnival, will increase awareness of the Gospel-led ministry being done through South Street.

Sounds like a great event. Tell me more.

To go and give through South Street, check out details of Trails’N’Rails at: http://southstreetministries.org/?page_id=40331 . Other serving opportunities are at:  http://southstreetministries.org/?page_id=325  .

To become a South Street prayer partner, email Barbara at: Barbara.Ammirati@ccchapel.com . You will receive a monthly email with 3 prayer requests or praises to lift up in prayer throughout the month.

SOS: Help renew God’s creation through South Street Ministries

South Street Ministries is Christ Community Chapel’s featured SOS (Simple Opportunities to Serve) ministry partner in August.

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Romans 12:2 ESV

God is in the business of renewing His creation.

The mission of South Street Ministries is the collaboration of unlikely partners taking shared risks to renew our community for Christ’s sake.  South Street works on behalf of inner city kids through after school homework assistance, its Bike Shop, which teaches responsibility, skills and the joy of earning a bike, its Youth Garden, and a wide range of other ministry programs.

God wants His Church to work for that renewal.

Believers are saved for a purpose. To be the hands and feet of Jesus to the less fortunate. This includes not just donating our treasure, but also our time and talent.  Going ‘hands on’ in God’s work for others is a sure way for our minds to be renewed, and our hearts softened.

How can I go ‘hands on?’

Consider these options:

Pray: Sign up to be a prayer warrior for South Street Ministries. You will receive a monthly email with 3 prayer requests or praises to lift up in prayer throughout the month. To sign up, email Barbara

Give:  Donate a used bicycle  for South Street’s  Bike Shop.   Youths of all ages come and earn a bike by working for a set number of hours.  This program is possible through the donations of bikes from our supporters.   Kids from the neighborhood are taught how to fix a brake-line, repair a flat tire, etc.   Bikes are repaired and earned every Monday and Wednesday night throughout the summer.
To donate a used bike, simply drop it off at CCC Hudson Campus in the back of the building (at the rear entrance to the kitchen.)   There will be a trailor parked there – simply leave it in the trailor.   We will deliver the bikes for you to South Street.
For more information, contact Barbara Ammirati at:  Barbara.ammirati@ccchapel.com

If you do not have a used bike to donate but would like to help, you can give a donation towards a bike by dropping your donation off at the church office receptionist desk Monday through Thursday 8:30am to 4:30pm or Friday 8:30am to noon.  Please mark your donation “SOUTH STREET BIKE SHOP”

GO: Eat at The Front Porch,  (the café run by South Street.)

SUMMERTIME IS BIKE TIME!

Christ Community Chapel is highlighting ministry partner South Street Ministries during the month of August. We are excited to support the South Street Bike Shop, and ask members and non-members alike to consider helping too!  Here's how it works:

Donate a used bicycle to South Street's Bike Shop.  Kids of all ages from the neighborhood come and earn their bike by working a set number of hours, depending on their age.  They learn how to fix a brake-line, repair a flat tire, etc.  Once their hours of on-the-job training are complete, they go home with their bicycle!

Christ Community Chapel is joining other area churches in collecting used bikes and we are excited to see how many members and friends will join the effort.  Simply bring your bike to the back side of the Hudson campus, where there is a trailer parked near the rear entrance to the kitchen. Leave your bike inside the trailer, and we will see that it is delivered to South Street!

If you don't have a bike to donate but would still like to help, you can give a financial donation and drop it off at the church office reception desk on Monday through Thursday 8:30-4:30 or Friday 8:30-noon. Make sure your envelope is clearly marked for SOUTH STREET BIKE SHOP.
