From that time Jesus began to preach, saying, “Repent, for the kingdom
of heaven is at hand.”
Matthew 4:17
Jesus calls all to repentance.
He calls for our hearts to recognize our sinfulness, God’s
grace, and our need for a Savior to re-orient our hearts toward God.
Inward repentance leads to outward fruit.
A re-oriented heart that loves God yearns to demonstrate
God’s grace, love and redeeming power to others. John the Baptist therefore admonished
outwardly religious people to bear fruit in keeping with repentance. Those whose hearts belong to Jesus long to show
God’s love by acts of serving others in Jesus’ name.
