Café 6:8 – Object Lesson in Justice and Mercy

You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.

God wants us to pass His ways on to others.

We believers are to make disciples, especially among our children. This is one of the most clear callings in Scripture.

A teaching moment at Cafe 6:8

How does Café 6:8 relate?

Christ Community Chapel’s recently re-opened Café is designed for believers to better grasp God’s Micah 6:8 mandate to do justice, love mercy and walk humbly before our God.  Each quarter, the Café features three CCC ministry partners, both local and global, and offers the chance to financially support them through the Café’s profits.

The Café is designed to boost our awareness of the missions of these ministries. Posters inform patrons of the goals and callings of the featured ministries, and each purchaser of Café goods receives a token. After informing themselves of the ministries featured, patrons can choose to support one of those ministries by putting the token in the container for that ministry. At the end of the quarter, Café profits will go to the featured ministries proportionate to the tokens per ministry.

Cafe 6:8 is designed to build awareness of justice & mercy ministries

So, Café 6:8 encourages believers to consider everyday spending decisions in terms of also supporting the work of God’s kingdom. It also ensures that CCC members and friends are better informed about the church’s ministry partners, and opportunities to pray, give and go (serve) through those partners.

In short, Café 6:8 is an object lesson for this year’s theme of Why Not Me?  It presents us with opportunities to make ourselves available to actively engage with CCC’s justice and mercy partners.

But wait…there’s more!

CCC members & friends at the Resource Center

The perfect complement to Café 6:8 is the newly re-opened and refurbished Resource Center.  The Center offers a wide range of books and other materials to help believers better know Christ, grow in Him and serve Him.

Thanks for your support.

Patrons at the Cafe 6:8 Grand Re-opening

The weekend of January 24/25th saw a great turnout of patrons both for Café 6:8 and the Resource Center. We encourage you to keep up your support for your personal growth, and for the spiritual formation of your loved ones.  May we all continue to ask, Why Not Me?  And, to make ourselves available to serve.

CCC’s Café 6:8 Grand Re-Opening!

The Connections coffee shop at Christ Community Chapel’s Hudson Campus has been transformed. It is re-opening this weekend (January 24/25) as ‘Café 6:8’ in keeping with CCC’s focus on Micah 6:8, which urges us to do justice, love mercy and walk humbly before our God.

What does coffee have to do with justice and mercy?

Plenty.

Each quarter, the Café will feature three CCC justice and mercy ministry partners, both local and global. Those who make a purchase will receive a token.  You can then place the token in the container labeled with the name of the ministry you choose to support. To help you in choosing, there will be a poster above the container describing the mission of each ministry partner.

Tokens? Then what happens?

Support for the three Micah ministry partners happens. One hundred percent of the profits from Café 6:8 will be distributed to the three ministry partners, per the percentage of the tokens they receive.

Who benefits?

The featured local ministry partner this first quarter of 2015 is Haven of Rest. Haven will use funds they get from the Café to help pay for their Hope Tote Easter outreach. Some 3,000 totes are given to homeless men and women in the Akron area by Haven of Rest each year.

May the names written on our floor also be written in the Book of Life!

Please also remember to pray for the more than 2,000 people whose names have been written on the Café floor. In the spirit of ‘Why Not Me,’ we are called to pray for those we hope will come to a saving faith in Jesus Christ, and that they may eventually visit Café 6:8 and celebrate God’s grace with us.

How do I get involved?

Enjoy coffee, or some of the newly added non-dairy drinks and gluten free items that Café 6:8 will offer. If you think ‘green’ and bring your own mug, you will get a discount. Please also keep in mind the atrium bookstore will also re-open this weekend, featuring newly added resources, like Christian greeting cards.
Please join us at Café 6:8 as we seek to be more conscious of ways everyday purchases can contribute to doing justice, loving mercy and walking humbly as we live out the Gospel.

Why Not Me – Saving Lives through PSS

'So do not fear; I will provide for you and your little ones.' Thus he comforted them and spoke kindly to them.

Genesis 50:21

God provides for the needs of the small and mighty.

Joseph’s words of peace and reconciliation with his brothers model how God is gracious in providing to the least among us.  Joseph gladly answered God’s calling to provide graciously for his extended family.

How does this happen today?

God works through Christ Community Chapel ministry partners like Pregnancy Solutions & Services (PSS) to provide for those who may be concerned or fearful about their futures. PSS recently made us aware of a need that you may be called to help fill:

‘We sincerely hope that your church had a blessed Christmas season!  PSS marches on in the quest to save babies and share Christ in 2015, and so we have some needs for the gift layettes that we give to new mothers that choose life.  These gift layettes are given to each mother after their baby is born, and so, with nearly 200 babies saved last year at PSS, we find ourselves completely out of these items:

   newborn diapers
   sample size lotions
   sample size baby powders
   sample size wipes
   baby bottles
   bibs
   burp cloths

We thank you in advance for any supplies that you can round up for us!  It is a blessing to be out of these items, as it means that God has sent us many clients to serve.  Will you help us?

The PSS Staff’

What can I do?

Prayerfully consider donating some of the items listed above, and clearly mark them ‘PSS’ when you drop them off. Please bring your donations to the CCC Hudson Campus church receptionist desk (Monday through Thursday  8:30 AM to 4:30 PM and Friday 8:30 AM to noon) or place them in the SOS crate by the fellowship hall.
