A story from Destiny Rescue

*Destiny Rescue is one of the three ministries that are being supported
through this year's Bike Challenge pledges.  Below is one story of a child rescued through this ministry.
It is stories like these that are motivating the 18 men to endure the heat and fatigue of this year's Bike Challenge!

SOLD FOR SEX BY MOTHER – Cambodia

CHONG -  Chong grew up in a home full of poverty, extreme abuse and neglect.
When Chong was 8 yrs old, her mother sold her to an older man to work as his servant.
The man exploited Chong, raping her young body multiple times.  Chong was hurt and
confused and didn’t know what to do.  After a time, Chong returned home to her family.

Chong’s mother sold her again to a lady who used Chong to plant and water her
lotus flower farm.   One day, a relative of the woman saw Chong alone in the fields and
raped her.  Chong returned home to a stepfather who started to molest her at night.
He was a very violent and drunk man and would often hurt Chong.  Chong’s mother
knew this was happening but did nothing to stop him because she was afraid of him.
Chong eventually ran away to her grandmother’s house to see help and safety.

Chong was found and rescued, and is now being cared for in a loving
 Destiny Rescue home.

Please note:  Names and some details have been changed to protect
the security and privacy of the victims

Packed and Ready to Go

24 hours from now we will all hopefully be in Cincinnati!

As we make the final preparations in packing up the food, drinks and supplies needed to assist the bikers on their journey, we can’t help but look back to last year’s  Bike Challenge and see the fruits of all God did over the year with the funds that were contributed.

We believe that the first child rescued from the Micah 6:8 Van that was purchased with funds from last year's ride should be delivered this week!

We also received an email from South Street that they have received in-kind commitments of another $120,000 from contractors in Akron so they are now ready to complete the building renovations at the Porch.  Last year’s Bike Challenge provided the $44,000 in funds to help put a new roof on the building that is home to a new cafĂ© and is also being used for worship on Sundays and local community meetings.

A family is living in the first home completed at Urban Vision with some of the funds raised last year, and another home is almost ready!

It will be a blessing to see how the Lord will use the funds from this year's initiatives.  As Pastor Joe reminded us today in his message, we will truly know the extent of God’s provision when we get to Heaven and meet the children who were rescued.

Please pray for the riders, good weather, and most of all, God’s provision and guidance in this journey to Rescue Children – one child at a time!

Fulfilling the Mandate in James 1:27

The 18 men riding in the Bike Challenge next week will be riding to raise funds to make it more financially feasible for families who have been called to adopt.  Here is a story from one CCC family who added two new lives to their family through adoption:

If you are a child of God, then you are adopted.  God has graciously brought us into His family as a son or daughter when we accept His salvation.  We view adoption the same way.  We are redeemed, bought back, from a life of sin and hopelessness.  It seems to be so normal for Christians to take part of God’s mandate in caring for orphans (James 1:27).  We have chosen to love and care for the fatherless because that is what God has done for us.  We know it does not seem that simple when you consider all the details:  the money, the waiting, the paperwork, the time, the endless questions including what if this child doesn’t love me or I feel detached, or what if he or she has an unknown medical condition?  But, it is the overwhelming, amazing, and unconditional love of God that should ultimately motivate adoption.  We just figured that it cost Jesus an awful lot to rescue us, so a couple little girls would surely be worth the effort.

Adoption has changed our lives and our family.  Hannah and Naomi are a gift God has blessed us with.  Being a parent will always be a privilege that God has given us.  And, if we are honest, we know that these children are God’s, the giver of every good gift.  It is through these precious children that we are able to see God’s love for us.

Why Ride?

On Tuesday, July 17th,  eighteen bicyclists will depart from Cincinnati for the  400 mile journey.  Why are these men choosing to take vacation time from work, and time away from their family and friends to ride an average of 100 miles a day for 4 1/2 days?

Don Williams, one of the riders is "Riding with the knowledge that each mile is a step in rescuing someone precious to God."

Dave Bradshaw says "I am riding to experience the time with other guys, and see what God will accomplish through the Bike Challenge."

Rick Brower, M.D.  hopes to "inspire people to get some exercise and actively participate in the work of God's Kingdom."

These are just a few of the reasons these men have chosen to ride but their dedication to serving their Lord and Savior is key.   The bible states in Micah 6:8 "No, O people, the Lord has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God."  (NLT)

These men are biking humbly with their God to do justice and love mercy for children in need!

Every 26 seconds.....

Every 26 seconds, a child is abducted into the sex trade industry....think about that for a moment....while you are brushing your teeth in the morning, there is a little girl somewhere who's life is being torn apart.....every 26 seconds....while you are driving to work, 20 girls have disappeared into the dark world without hope to escape....every 26 seconds....

One of the ministries that Bike Challenge 2012 will be partnering with is Destiny Rescue.    In the words of the founder, "What would you do if this was your daughter?"    It is time to stand up for these little girls and help them recover their lives and help them see that the Body of Christ will stand for their freedom and welcome them home.   If you wish to learn more about this amazing ministry (click here)

Bike Challenge 2012 - It's almost here!

It's hard to believe that in a few days, 17 riders will begin the 400 mile bike trek across Ohio to help "Rescue Children - One Child at a Time"  - this year's focus for Bike Challenge 2012 .

Please keep all the riders in your prayers as they prepare for this strenuous event.   Averaging close to 90 miles a day, this 4 1/2 day trip takes strength and dedication.

  • Please pray for cooler temperatures to ride and no inclement weather.
  • Pray for safety for all the riders and their support team.
  • Pray that God will be honored in all that is done through this event.
  • Pray that many children will be rescued and come to know the love of Christ.
  • Pray specifically for each rider
